If you don’t know Brad Elterman – it’s time to get to it. His career started with a borrowed camera at the age of 16. His first photo, of Bob Dylan performing on stage, was published in 1974.

That lead to endless nights of covering the rock scene in Hollywood encompassing pop, punk and rock bands including the Faces with Rod Stewart, David Bowie, the Sex Pistols, the Runaways, Kiss, Queen, Blondie, the Ramones, the Bay City Rollers, Abba, Boney M, Kenny Rogers, The Who, Leif Garrett, Michael Jackson, etc.

Here’s some of his amazing photos with a little description made by him.

Bob Dylan and the Band 1974:

This is the first photo I sold! I landed a pair of front from center seats to see Dylan and the band at the Los Angeles Forum and invited pal Jeff Sackman. I shot several photos and sent them to Sounds, a British weekly music newspaper. No photo credit and I don’t think I was paid, but it was the start of great things.

The Key to On The Rox 1976:

On The Rox was the most exclusive private nightclub in Los Angeles back when this photograph was taken in 1976. It was owned by Lou Adler and Elmer Valentine and no one could get in there unless you were a major celebrity or if you had incredible connections. The entrance to the club was an unmarked door at The Roxy Theatre on the Sunset Strip. The most exclusive members had a key to get into the club and if you did not have a key, then you had to resort to speaking into the intercom for entrance. As you can see in this rare photograph that Ringo had that key! What I like the best of this photograph was the expressions of the two dudes who can not believe their eyes that right in front of them are half of The Beatles!

Bebe Buell and Stiv Bators at Firoucci’s 1978:

This photo was taken at an incredible party at Firoucci’s store in Beverly Hills. I think KISS, tons of stars and beautiful girls were present. Firoucci’s was known for its outrageous fashions and fun parties, as well as the punks who worked there. Bebe had been living with Todd Rundgren and was at many happening parties. Think of Elvis Costello’s “This Year’s Model,” written when he was dating her. Stiv Bators was the lead singer of the Dead Boys. Interesting how celebrities attract. FYI Bebe is the mother of Liv Tyler. Stiv was hit by a car in Paris, refused to go to the hospital, and died in his sleep.

Party girls at Norman’s house 1980:

This photo was taken at a home in the Hollywood Hills. You can see my friend Barbara with some chick we met as the bash. Everyone was so free and cool back then. Glad I had my camera with me that evening!
